Abdominal aortic aneurysm and risk of rupture.

370 residents of Rochester, Minnesota, with clinicallyrecognized unruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), were identified through record review. The rolling entry period was 1951-1984. Of these 181 had at least one documenting ultrasound. Five persons had rupture of the aneurysm within 48 hours of the ultrasound exam, and were excluded from the study. The study group consisted of the remaining 176 persons with unruptured aneurysms that had been found clinically and assessed by at least one ultrasound exam.
